Frequently asked
- How long does a power of attorney appointment take?
- Most POA signings take 15–20 minutes. If several documents are being signed at once, plan for 30 minutes.
- What does the signer need to bring?
- A current, unexpired government-issued photo ID and the unsigned power of attorney document. Do not sign it in advance — the signature must be made in the notary's presence.
- Does the agent (attorney-in-fact) need to be present?
- Usually not. In Minnesota, the person granting authority is the one who signs before the notary. Some forms include an acceptance page for the agent — if yours does, the agent should attend or sign separately.
- Do I need witnesses for a power of attorney?
- Minnesota statutory short-form POAs generally require notarization rather than witnesses, but some institutions and out-of-state forms ask for witnesses. If you're unsure, send us the form ahead of time and we'll confirm before the appointment.
- Can you notarize a POA in a hospital or nursing home?
- Yes. Bedside signings are a regular part of our work. The signer must be awake, aware of what they're signing, and able to communicate their intent and sign or direct a signature.
- What if the signer can't physically hold a pen?
- Minnesota allows a signature by mark or a signature made at the signer's direction with witnesses present. Let us know in advance so we can arrive prepared.
- Can you come today?
- Often, yes. Most Twin Cities appointments are filled the same day, frequently within a few hours. Submit a request or call and we'll confirm availability before anything is finalized.
- How does payment work?
- A deposit reserves your appointment and is credited toward the final invoice. The balance is invoiced after the signing is complete. Cards, cash, and checks are accepted — card payments include a $4.95 processing fee.
